For anyone that gives a rats ars, I headed up to Ft.McMurray for work, not enough money in Drayton Valley to keep me there. I got on working in the Syncrude mine and once I finish my training I'll be driving a Cat 797, a really big-ass dump truck, hauls about 300-400 tonnes per trip.

Not really hiding, just trying to secure work to keep the bill collectors away. Finally finised my CVT's (computer video Training) and went for a ride in one of the 797's. It was thrilling for the first 10min then it just felt like a big pickup. lol Everything looks small when you r driving in those trucks, even the 24h grader which are the biggest in the world. Well i guess the 797 are the biggest as well. Tonight I get to jump in the pilot's seat!!

abandoned towns would ROCK for AS!

and on another topic (forgive the hijack) I just got a TM m4A1 for 50 bucks in the mail! I though I was buying just some m4 parts but behold a complete shell...needs internals, charging handle and dust cover...so a couple a little things and its a complete c8..err I mean m4! It will nicely complement my fine growing AK collection, and work with my Can loadout.

I always wished airsoft could be played in the Abandoned town just outside kamloops on the shores of the river/lake.

It was a town made for people with terminal illnesses but was shut down due to asbestos. There are two WHOLE blocks of houses, a huge multi floored hospital, a huge multi floored school, and many more buildings. It also has a HUGE network of tunnels underneath where generators were hidden and a few other things I cant talk about. The whole place has been abandoned since the 60's.

I always said if I won millions upon millions of dollars Id buy the place, clean every spot of asbestos out and turn it into a giant paintball and airsoft field!

Asbestos eh?

One of the locals here was talking about that place too...I THINK he said he had started a dialog...can't remember exactly...but the tunnels and building sounded like a hoot...ya know..asbestos if undisturbed is pretty tame. Just dont reno any walls or ceilings.

Really depends on the state of the place.

What was the town called?

Mikhail, it was called the Tranquille Sanitarium. It was a place for people that had things like tuberculosis and other illnesses would live. Nurses and doctors would also live there in the houses.

http://urbantekniques.com/tranquil.htm

Go there for pictures of the compound!

Supposedly there was a movie filmed there a long time ago or something.

I did asbestos removal for a while, it's kind not as dangerous as ppl would like you to believe, like you said if its undisturbed. Coffee Mate is almost as dangerous. Just don't breathe the dust from it and you will be ok.

In any other buildings I wouldn't worry, but in buildings THAT run down, ceilings falling down, walls rotting, and then add to that people playing airsoft in there, running through rooms, slamming up against walls, etc could create that dust.

Just finished watching youtube videos about this. Heres one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv8-iIFii-k&NR=1

Gives SOME idea of the layout...I wonder if the larger building (like the hospital or school) are in better shape. Just CQB would be cool. If the basement is flooded, the tunnels might be too.

Not all the tunnels are flooded, when I was down there some where but most of them aren't. It was pretty freaky down there and I wouldn't want to spend any time down there.

The hospital, school, etc were in pretty decent shape. The school (or was it the hospital) was made out of concrete and all the glass is still in the building so it keeps the elements out. You might have to worry about mold though.

Most of the houses are in decent condition although many do have dry rot.

There is also a barn and a factory type place although we weren't allowed in the factory place because it was in pretty bad shape.

Unknown Fact:
I actually had two family members die in that place... one is buried in Kamloops, the other's body was shipped home to Washington.

So you are saying that the hospital and school and some tunnels would be ok...if the walls aint falling in then I would think asbestos issues are contained.

That right there would be pretty cool for a site....Do you know if any of the tunnels run between the two buildings?

The tunnels run all over the place. Im not sure which ones are flooded anymore since it's been about 12 years since I was there last but I wouldn't want to game in those tunnels. No lights, not even 6 feet tall, very tight, etc Very Happy

As for the family deaths, they were LONG before my time. Both tied of TB and spent their last days in the hospital there.

Another story. It's pretty quiet here at work tonight. Smile

My Grandfather was in Tranquille as a teenager. Apparently he decided he wasn't going to stay there and die like everyone else so he ran away and built a cabin out at Adam's Lake to live in. We buried his ashes under the floorboards of that cabin when I was in my early 20's.

He loved hunting and guns... I guess that's likely where I get it from. I can remember going to my grandparents place in Exlou and he'd have the latest gun digest and I'd sit and page through it for hours when we weren't out on the property shooting gophers. The t in twsmith is for my first name, Thomas, which was his middle name.
