PostSubject: Transportation   Transportation EmptySun 21 May 2006, 7:31 pm

I don't want anyone to take this as an attack or as an insult, it is just an observation and a suggested solution.

Everyone benefits from having more players, but not everyone can afford or has access to a vehicle. It's not my place, but maybe the club should look at giving people who provide transport for others a discount on their club fee. It would help offset the cost of fuel, wear and tear on vehicles, etc... In this manner, the players who don't have vehicles and always need a lift to games could help offset the added cost incurred by players who provide said transporation.

I'm not trying to weasel out of paying my club fees. I can afford them, or I wouldn't be making the trip down. But some players are on tight budgets and shouldn't always be expected to pay the extra $ to get others out on the field.

Sorry guys, I've given it a bit of thought and I guess this is a reversal on my previous comments in the May 20th briefing thread. Embarassed

We give the person who lets us use their land free games...we should totaly help out other members who contribute to the gaming experience.

I personally think that players coming from way out of town should get a freebie game. I thionk that those who get rides should off set the cost themselves.

I agree, but the driver shouldn't have to feel like a cheap prick and ask for money. Maybe we could charge a higher club fee for those that require a ride, and the club could arrange for transportation and re-imburse the driver. I don't mean for times when you pick someone up on your way to the field, but for when someone has to go out of their way ie. from Ness Lake all the way into town and then back out to Ness Lake.

I do agree that guests coming from out of town for games should have the club fee waived. But seriously Dave, if you meant me, I don't mind paying the club fee. Smile It helps me feel like I'm contributing to the club since I can't be there to help organize events or attend club meetings.

If we could organize a team road trip, and include the fuel expense and transportation in the club fee for the game we could likely get some people interested in coming out. (ie. charge $20 per person and bring one or two vehicles up using the club fees collected for fuel expenses.) It may seem expensive, but there is no field/club fee for the FSJ games and we could likely get 20-30 players out if all the regulars came out from both clubs. Even if you got 6 players interested, that's $120 bucks towards fuel and then people just need to buy/bring food. I'll even buy some hotdogs and hamburgers and fire up the BBQ. Did I mention that I live at the Lake and have lakefront property? Smile

Picture this, but subtract the ice and add some sun. Smile

Horton and I have dicussed road trips. There is a lot of debate for and against. I personally have no issue using club fees to fund a road trip. The issue is that those who are unable to go may feel cheated. Of course, you suggest that we just pay to go, as per trip, which fits the ticket perfectly. The only issue is that do we have a vehicle available to carry 6 people. The more we split up the vehicles the more costly it becomes. I have a car that carry myself, my gear, and maybe one other person and gear. That is not very effective...

Wayne, from the small pics shown, you truely have a beautiful piece of property. Is it possible to camp there, as in the club camping on your lawn? Or possible for the FSJ club to hold a night game, ie. play sunday-sunday night, and leave in the morning?

I really would like to see a club road trip up north. It would be a valuable experience to learn how other people play and function. By knowing our enemy, we shall rule them ALL!!!

PostSubject: Re: Transportation   Transportation EmptyMon 22 May 2006, 3:13 pm

Unfortunately, my property is small, so not much room for camping. I do have a camper which could sleep 4 and a guest room with a double futon. I also have a large tent (I think it's an 8 person tent) which has a divider to make 2 rooms, which we could make room for on the driveway. People would have to bring sleeping bags and would probably want foamies if they're sleeping in the tent.

I'm not sure about overnight games, as we play at Walker's grandparents ranch which is about a 40 minute drive from my house and I don't want to go volunteering someone else's property. But if we talk to Walker maybe we could organize an overnight or 2 day milsim and just camp at the ranch.

Alternatively, if it's just a one day game, we usually start at 10AM on Sunday and play as long as people can stick around. If you guys came up the night before the game (at most a 3.5 hour drive from PG) you could crash at my place and we could carpool with just our gear to the game the next morning. There's a couple ok restaurants in HH which is about half way between my place and the field where we could snag breakfast/brunch on the way to the game. Once we're done playing for the day we head back to my house, maybe have some BBQ burgers and dogs and then you could either stay another night or head back to PG.
Even if you don't want to do a club game, just get a couple guys to split the cost of gas. It costs me about $60 to go to PG and back with my Saturn, and around $90 to take my Explorer.

I think it sounds like a good idea to finally get some more playing experience other than just our club. As for the transportation thing, I do have to agree with Wayne. "I feel really bad after giving someone a ride to say hey, could you chip in some for gas?" Makes me feel like I'm like "hey I'll give you a ride... if you pay me" Maybe just get them to pay your club fee or something, but I do think its something that needs to be worked out personally between whose driving and whose getting a ride.

I can't that think of a way to get folks to pay their driver if the driver has gone out of the way to get them...as an organizer I wouldn't want to have to look after that but it does need to happen.

Wayne I didn't specifically mean you when I mentioned out of town players. Guys like CW123 or whatever his tag is and guys from FSJ, 100 mile and Kelowna have shown interest also. Having you at the games has been a great experience Wayne...dpn't feal like a burden.

Wayne you have a great looking place. I would totally be up for coming up there sometime. The fall works a whole lot better for me than now but I think all it would take it someone with a high cap car (NERD-using airsoft terms for cars) to say that they are going that way and see if anyone would split the cost. I am willing to do that this fall for sure with whatever I will be driving then.

Hey guys,

Just reading in on some of your conversations and hell yeah camping on or near our playing fields is an option. If you guys wanted to make aweekend out of it that would be a blast. The Ardil ranch consists of 43 sections, yeah SECTIONS so there is plenty o campin spots and I know if you boys were to come for a weekend or a 24 hour game I could round up the majority of our club members for a massive game! just think we could even invite Makenzie!

Thanks Walker.

Sounds like camping on the Ranch is definitely an option. Smile
If we can plan a weekend camping/milsim with games both days, maybe we could convince these PG guys to make the trip up. Maybe I could even get some of the HH locals to finally commit to buying their own guns. Wink

See you Sunday.
