| Whats funny is that there's more money in accessories on the gun than what the gun is worth. | |

- Where did you get that from? From what I've read the G36 and HK 416 are lower maintenance and more reliable than most AR's? Didn't the American army just do some abuse testing to compare the 416 to standard issue Colt M4 and M16 rifles? And didn't the 416 just blow them away in the tests?
Yeah, thats what I thought too. I haven't ever seen anything on the G36 style of guns but if they are anything like the 416 they are very durable. Here's a clip comparing HK 416 system to the M4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGwkHktkTxU

| Well I got it from SOME personal experience, Ive owned an H&K SL-8 and the thing required twice as much cleaning as any other gun I've owned to continue operating perfectly. I'm not the only one who's had that complaint on the SL-8. I got so tired of it I sold the bloody thing after a couple months. For urban environments (or range use only for civilians) then it works fine, but out door combat (or hunting use for civilians) you get it any bit dirty and the thing loves to start acting up. The M14 I had would handle any sort of dirt or moisture you threw at it lol.
There also a guy on another forum Im a member of who hunts (for sh*ts and giggles) with a G36 and he's ALWAYS complaining on the work that is required to keep that bloody thing operational. Maybe it's just me buy a G36 feels JUST like it's airsoft counterpart. If you're use to hefting firearms made mostly out of metal, the G36 will feel like a toy (it's built fine it just feels weird at first if you're not used to them). Granted I MIGHT still buy one for the fun factory if I had $10,000 to waste.
Then on Discovery when they had a special on SWAT, the armorer stated that he hated working on the MP5's because they were a "pain in the a**" (his exact words). Granted it didn't go into any more than that.
Ok yes I give the HK416 it's due (it's also the newest HK firearm and somewhat modeled after the M4), that is one amazing piece of weaponry and would gladly pick up the civilian version, the MR223 if the price tag wasn't $15,000 for one.
So yes maybe my comment was a little tongue in cheek since the 416 has blown everything out of the box and I'll readily admit that (forgot about the 416 when I made that comment).

| For the G36 and SL8 I'm not speaking from personal experience, only from what I've read on military websites and law enforcement magazines. It seems odd you'd have so many problems with the SL8 considering it uses the short stroke gas piston system from the G36 which is also the key upgrade used to make the 416 so much better than the standard M4/M16. Especially considering most websites state that the short stroke piston system used in the SL8 is the reknowned for it's simplicity and reliability. Bad ammo or maybe just a lemon? As for reliability and low maintenance I'll take my Cheap $100 Chinese SKS any day. I hardly even have to clean the thing even when I run cheap chinese crap ammo it still shoots like a charm. No argument on the M14, by far my favourite rifle... I'd love to have one for hunting up here, but it ain't no AR! - Drache wrote:

| SKS is ALMOST as reliable as the AK-47 thats for sure! Ive seen some SKS' put through HELL and BACK and still work, not to mention firing some REALLY NASTY looking Surplus ammo! And as for the M14 I kick myself everyday for selling it but mine needed some tuning that I didnt have time nor money at the time to get done so I sold it back to the RCMP officer I originally bought it from for $100 more than what I paid for it (granted I did include the scope mount). What's funny is the RCMP officer shipped it to me in a "FIREARMS EVIDENCE BOX"! I was pretty surprised about it when I first unwrapped the box and read "Evidence Handle With Care" on the side of the box. Luckily for me the Evidence Tag Sheet on the box wasn't filled out! In fact I still have the box sitting in my closet, don't know what to do with it. lol | |

| I picked up a Polytech m14 awhile ago, they're pretty nice for what you pay. What kind of work did your m14 need drache? Was it a Norinco? | |

My head spacing was out a little bit and although the gun worked and fired, a friend who is known as the "M14 Doctor of BC" said I should get it fixed before continuing to shoot it (I was shooting .308 instead of surplus 7.62, if I would have switched to 7.62 then the head spacing wouldn't matter). At the time though I was broke so instead I just sold it back to the guy I bought it from. It was a Norinco M14S built in 2007.
