Chinese has found 2 differnt radio sets at Cosco. Wondering what you guys think of purchasing a pair.

1-small 3.5 km range, take 3aaa-$30 I think?

2-large 8km range, rechargeable and come with charger, $50

3-DON'T SPEND THE MONEY-$0

Gosh I suck at being a Mod I can't even figure out how to put a poll on this thread! Anyway my vote is for the large ones, worth the cost and does more than what we need so we can grow into them. My question is "Are they compatible with other radios" If I bring my cobras will they work together?

I will send Geoff out tomorow if you guys want them. We will have the money for them seeing as this next game should add around $50 to our $20 that we have.

I own a set of 16km cobras and they work really well...so if it helps to lean towards cobras since i know that all types of cobras are compatible with each other, no matter what range they are!

Any FRS/GMRS radio should work with any other. There may be some specialized channels on the GMRS that are not available on the FRS though. I own 2 FRS radios and may have access to another 10 FRS/GMRS through work.
Note that my work radios and my personal radios do interact perfectly when set on the correct channels.

So these would be fine with most other radios then...you learn something new everyday. Is anyone opposed to this purchase?

Just out of curiosity, why buy radios? I have some, brought them to a game, and no one wanted to use 'em because they gave away everyone's position...

It would be nice for each team to have at least one no matter who comes that way they can agree on when a game is starting or if the game ends. Then anyone with personal radios can make team channels so each team can talk back and forth to each other.

EDIT-the club officially has a set of radios, we'll get our monies worth in just one game!

Hey Jeff,

My dumb... I wasn't opposed to the radios, I just couldn't figure out how to turn off that page "beep" every time you tried calling me. It made it pretty difficult to try flanking the terrorist (Doug) when he could hear the radio beeping while I was trying to sneak through the forest. Smile

I think the Cobras are a good idea if we can figure out how to use them properly without giving away our positions.

ttyl

Wayne,

To conceal radio communications, we could just use those small earphones...

My crappy radios have the same feature where they chirp after everycall but we figured out how to turn it off. We could figure it out on yours too no problem Yuurei. There was almost enough radios for everyone last game...LOTS OF FUN! Makes it easier to start and stop games too!
